I’m sorry if this sounds a bit churlish, but what sort of weather do some people expect in the depths of winter.
Firstly, let me say this – the weather is bad, very bad. Certainly the worst weather that I can remember for a very long time (but not the worst weather that I can EVER remember – but then I am really really old. According to my daughter least ways). But, as I’m typing this the BBC news is on (and I’m not picking on the BBC for any other reason than they are now in ear shot ) but the whole of the media is equally as bad.
It’s all gloom, doom and Siberian based depression.
Once again Britain comes to a grinding halt because we have had a little bit of bad weather.
We just seem to to fall into a panic because of what, to be honest, should be normal Mid Winter weather. Something we should take into account as somewhat normal, something we should be able to deal with.
What do the Scandinavians’ do? The Canadians? The Alaskan’s?
They, of course, have proper levels of snow and Ice. And, from what I can work out they get on and deal with the weather. Fair enough, there’s not a lot you can do if you house is stuck in the middle of a blizzard, apart from close the door and get the monopoly board out. But other than that they get on with their everyday lives. They know their strategies. They make their arrangements and they deal with it.
That said, I must admit, I’m cold and I too have had enough of it – just like everyone else I suspect.
Carol Kirkwood, the poor BBC News weather presenter, is once again stood in the Blue Peter Garden, wearing the thickest coat you can imagine. Hood pulled as tight as she can to cut out the cold. You can imagine the Cameraman (who is similarly cocooned against the cold) saying “I’m sorry Carol love, but you’ll have to drop the hood. we’re on in 5”. She has delivered yet another doom laden weather forecast for another 5 to 10 c ms of snow today.
I just feel sorry for all the gritter drivers. They get to go out in all that cold weather, in the middle of the night. Working hard to try and help the average driver – just to hear the comment from some of “The Bloody Council – they haven’t gritted the road again”
Lets just get on with it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel – even the weather people say this present freeze should be over within the next ten days or so.
So dig in.
I, for one, will be looking for an extra shirt and a thicker pair of socks. Spring is NOT that far away.
