In the last few days …..

It has been a couple of days since I saw the consultant at Lincoln Hospital, regards the painful back. With a several days concideration, it is obvious that the situation is as normal. With some points good and others bad.

Firstly the bad. I now have treatment regime and a lot of stretches and exercises to do. Although , in the end, exercise was going to be a potential goal. In the consultants opinion I had actually (probibly ) had one, or more, spinal discs either deform or bulge, hence causing severe pain. And it’s a contender for the recent “Kidney Infections” culprit. That said I am now suffering from the cure, not the original condition. The discs appear to have restored themselves to something like normal, but the scaring and damage caused in that process is the reason for the present malaise.

    The good points?

The good points are that there is a solution. And a realatively straightforward one at that. There is quite a few weeks work to do. With the said exercises, a little “proper” training and a careful eye in the future it looks like we will be able to manage this problem fairly easierly.

That said, everything had to be reassessed in 7 weeks time ( and if they can find the original missing x-ray) so things may yet again change .

But for now, I’m fairly happy. Sore, but happy.

    A good day all round

Have had a really “useful” day today. Have been mentoring a nice lad on his first real broadband fault – thanks Pete! This has been the first day, since I came back that I could see that I had really made a difference to someone – and I’m smiling. Even Liam has got his car back, not longer smelling of petrol. A good day all round .

I know Tilly hasn’t been well , but I feel really “ODD” at the moment. But if I’m not careful, I’ll sound like a hypochondriac.

    Not more snow

It’s been a relatively busy day for me. Driving round in the snow wasn’t actually to bad. Sun was out. The Sky was blue and the air ( realatively )warm. It was beautiful – a good day to be alive.

But not now. The snow is back with a vengance and Cathy needs a lift home. Never mind here we go

Bad Weather, what bad weather ….

I’m sorry if this sounds a bit churlish, but what sort of weather do some people expect in the depths of winter.

Firstly, let me say this – the weather is bad, very bad. Certainly the worst weather that I can remember for a very long time (but not the worst weather that I can EVER remember – but then I am really really old. According to my daughter least ways). But, as I’m typing this the BBC news is on (and I’m not picking on the BBC for any other reason than they are now in ear shot ) but the whole of the media is equally as bad.

It’s all gloom, doom and Siberian based depression.

Once again Britain comes to a grinding halt because we have had a little bit of bad weather.

We just seem to to fall into a panic because of what, to be honest, should be normal Mid Winter weather. Something we should take into account as somewhat normal, something we should be able to deal with.

What do the Scandinavians’ do? The Canadians? The Alaskan’s?

They, of course, have proper levels of snow and Ice. And, from what I can work out they get on and deal with the weather. Fair enough, there’s not a lot you can do if you house is stuck in the middle of a blizzard, apart from close the door and get the monopoly board out. But other than that they get on with their everyday lives. They know their strategies. They make their arrangements and they deal with it.

That said, I must admit, I’m cold and I too have had enough of it – just like everyone else I suspect.

Carol Kirkwood, the poor BBC News weather presenter, is once again stood in the Blue Peter Garden, wearing the thickest coat you can imagine. Hood pulled as tight as she can to cut out the cold. You can imagine the Cameraman (who is similarly cocooned against the cold) saying “I’m sorry Carol love, but you’ll have to drop the hood. we’re on in 5”. She has delivered yet another doom laden weather forecast for another 5 to 10 c   ms of snow today.cloud_rain

I just feel sorry for all the gritter drivers. They get to go out in all that cold weather, in the middle of the night. Working hard to try and help the average driver – just to hear the comment from some of “The Bloody Council – they haven’t gritted the road again”

Lets just get on with it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel – even the weather people say this present freeze should be over within the next ten days or so.

    So dig in.

I, for one, will be looking for an extra shirt and a thicker pair of socks. Spring is NOT that far away.

A Happy New Year, yet another year begins!!

Good morning to everyone and I would like to wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR.

With the seasons greeting over, here we are once again at the beginning of another year. Not only that, but the first new day of the second decade of the 21st Century. A Century that is not longer young, a century that has already had more than it’s fair share of doom and destruction.

In some ways I’m glad that the 09’s have gone. Today is certainly a good point to make a new start – last year was not been one of the Smudger families best. It would also be fair to say that it certainly hasn’t been the worst, but I , for one, will not miss it. The sad part is, that i, personally, have to continue with some of last years more painful consequences, but I guess that that particular issue has the potential to get somewhat worse before it has any chance of getting better – but a lot of the details of that specific “pain” have been documented already.

Normally I’m not a big person for New Years resolutions, but I do have one this year. After the various struggles with my back injury I have gain a little weight (into which read –TOO MUCH). I know why I gained weight, and I know now that I could have done so much more to have managed the situation better. But as they say, hind-sight is a wonderful thing.

So I have to deal with it now. I do have a goal. Within the next year or so, I have been ask to give my “adoptive” daughter away at her wedding and I WILL NOT be a Tele tubby for that.

As I type I can see that the cold and dark of last night, has given way to the crisp bite of new fallen snow. I know this will sound sad, but as the New Year turned the family and friends we were celebrating with looked out of the conservatory door to see the beginnings of the usual New Year Fireworks.

What was really nice was to see that someone had released, what I know as, Chinese Fire Lanterns. You could see them gently rise up into the air, but you could then understand why the air was so cold – there must have been a serious breeze. Once the lanterns got to certain height (one I wouldn’t even take a guess at even in daylight) they really began to move across the sky. Quick, but some how, still calm, gentle, peaceful.

    That was nice.

A new powder coat of snow lays across the garden in almost pristine condition – almost. Across the garden I have just noticed (as I nip in and out of the kitchen to top up the coffee levels as I type), various small bird types that you don’t normally seem to see in our garden. Coal Tits and Blue Tits are both hopping from the bushes across to the bird table. I never normally notice them as they tend to get “bullied” off the table by the bigger, less “polite” birds. Starlings and even some muggles Racing Pigeons. But then some days, like today, you just get to see the smaller birds. Sparrows and even our own Robin.

The house is quiet, with everyone else still asleep after the lateness of last nights new year celebrations. The sun is out and the sky a clear blue. The air is crisp, and the snow fresh. It is a peaceful, calm, and somewhat beautiful way to start the New Year.

Have a nice, peaceful day – we all deserve one.
